Servant Leadership

2 Corinthians 9:8-14 (NKJV)

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written:  “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”  10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, 13 while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, 14 and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you.

Anthony DeChristopher  senior pastor

Calvary Chapel Redmond began in November 1997 by Pastor Anthony DeChristopher in fellowship with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa.  We place a great deal of emphasis on teaching God's Word, so that we might worship Him in Spirit and in truth.  We also place an importance on our worship in song, for the Lord has put a new song in our hearts and He loves to hear the praises of His people.

In addition, we believe you'll find a warm and loving teaching ministry to your children as well.  They are presented with teaching specifically geared to their level of understanding, as we have found this to be a most effective way to ensure their spiritual growth.  We are excited about what the Lord is doing and we hope that we might be helpful in assisting you in your personal relationship with God.

Biographical background

Pastor Anthony

My wife and I celebrated forty three years of marriage last year. We have five children, Christine 42, Anthony 40, Elisabeth 29, Joseph 27, and Sarah 21. We are blessed that all of our children love Jesus. By our three eldest children, we have seven grandchildren.

Presently, I pastor Calvary Chapel in Redmond, Oregon. This is a church that began in our living room in 1995, becoming a Calvary Chapel in 1997. Pastor Chuck Smith personally approved the paper work required for affiliation, which included my doctrinal positions, besides a personal testimony. My most important supporter and biggest helper from the beginning and continues to be is my wife, Alejandrina. She began ministry as a Sunday school teacher in 1976, just one year old in the Lord. Believing this is her calling and although a pastor’s wife with all that entails, she remains faithful in the children’s ministry.

We both were blessed to have Pastor Chuck Smith as our first pastor in July of 1975. He taught us the importance of going through the Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter and book by book. Since 1997, I have taken our congregation through the entire Bible, which took fourteen years, and since then have been going through a second time. I have, and always will, adhere to that principal as long as I am pastoring. I share my pastor’s convictions, and that is, I am not planning on retirement. I want to continue on as long as God allows me to.

I had been a house painter by trade and painted full time for 27 years. As the church began to grow, I continued painting, until I was counseled by other pastors to start taking a partial salary. The board was also in agreement. It was in 2002 that I began to receive a full salary. I turned over my paint company to a man that I had discipled and taught to paint, and God has provided ever since. Truly where God guides, God provides. Prior to the transition it was my intention to keep painting and pastoring, which had become more difficult to do with a growing church.

I was born February, 14, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. From age 5 I grew up in Southern California, and graduated high school in 1975. Raised Catholic, I was always taught to believe in God. It wasn’t until 1975 that I committed my life to Christ. My wife and I attended the same high school and didn’t get to know each other until after high school at a home Bible study, which we regularly attended. She also became a Christian in 1975. We were married in 1978. We attended Calvary Chapel Downey. Then we moved to Lake Elsinore in 1980. It was there that Pastor John Duncan of Calvary Chapel Lake Elisinore took me under his wing. I began to be given ministry responsibilities. I was ordained and became his assistant pastor for several years.

Learning of a pastoral school made available at Calvary Chapel West Covina, I applied.  I was accepted. They limited the school to thirty men that were already doing the ministry. Eighteen of us graduated. The main focus was preparing men to be sent out to plant churches. We were taught mechanics of ministry and things to know passed down by men who had many years of ministry experience. We were told of a great need on the east coast for church planting. Our family headed out on a 30 day trip to see if God wanted us to move to the east coast. Instead it was made clear that Oregon was the place God wanted us. We moved to Central Oregon in 1992 for the sole purpose of planting a church.

At that time there were no Calvary Chapels in Central Oregon. I first helped plant Calvary Chapel Bend with the understanding I would help for one year, then begin a work in Redmond. After 3 years with Calvary Chapel Bend established, we began in Redmond.

God blessed and confirmed to me this is where I am to remain. Our fellowship is a wonderful group. God has gifted us in such a way that we are able to disciple through hospitality. We are able to reach out to the community in many ways. We go into Deer Ridge Correctional Facility in Madras, a ministry we named Captive Audience ministry. We also go into health facilities in Redmond and a dementia center in Bend, a ministry we named Threshold to Eternity ministry. We also have a radio teaching every Sunday morning called Sessions in Scripture. We have taken the listening audience through the Book of Leviticus and also the Book of Romans so far.

I have watched God provide for many years. I have also been able to pour myself into young men, raised up to be leaders. Men that share the same heart, vision and goals. Also aligning in the same philosophy and distinctions of ministry. These men are qualified to carry on the work if God takes me home unexpectedly. Also, I believe they would have the full support of the fellowship.

Sincerely and in His Service,

Anthony DeChristopher
